Early Orthodontics
Orthodontic treatment can start as early as age 6 to 7, and is referred to as "interceptive orthodontics". Starting orthodontic treatment early can be beneficial in certain situations, such as crowding in teeth, because at this age the teeth and jaw are still developing and growing. Thus, starting this procedure is useful in correcting the position of the dental arches and jaws.
If your child is undergoing orthodontic treatment, here are some tips to help them maintain their oral health and hygiene to prevent any further complications!
Tips for Early Orthodontics
Rinse with water
Encourage your children to rinse after eating, as this can help loosen and remove any left over food particles. Then make it a habit to brush after meals as well!
Floss, floss, floss!
Remember to help your children floss each night as flossing is crucial in maintaining healthy gums and preventing the buildup of plaque under the gum line.
Visit the dentist
Make plans to take your children to the dentist every 6 months for a check up cleaning, as the dentist will be able to point out any areas that need extra work on to ensure that you are keeping your children's teeth healthy and clean.
